2017 was a great year for Kewaunee County Farm Technology Days.

Wonderful host family. Record number of volunteers. And fantastic attendees. Now it’s time for Kewaunee County Farm Technology Days to give back to the community.

Over $103,000 was donated to twenty local charities that volunteered during the 2017 show. The Executive Committee was also excited to give back an additional $250,000 to the community. These funds were distributed in one of three ways, including scholarships, grants, and a legacy community project called the Dana Farm Ice Rink and Warming Shelter. The legacy project also included the restoration of the Ransom Moore Cabin, which is the birthplace of the founder of Wisconsin 4-H and the UW-Madison Agronomy Department.

The Ransom Moore Cabin was restored by a professional. Restoration included new chinking between the logs and fireplace, and replacement of rotten logs. Electricity, baseboard heating, and new light fixtures were replaced in the cabin for year-round use.

The warming shelter and ice rink are free for public use and include the use of skatehelpers for young or inexperienced skaters. The warming shelter also includes restrooms. The skating rink is open and maintained when weather permits.

The scholarships will benefit students who are in the second half of their post-secondary school. Student alumni from districts including Algoma, Kewaunee, Luxemburg-Casco, Denmark, Southern Door, and Mishicot in either two or four-year colleges will be awarded $1,000, giving out $6,000 total each year. Kewaunee County FTD is looking to award these scholarships to approximately 70 students over 10 years, at minimum.

Applications can be mailed to UW-Extension Kewaunee County ℅ FTD Scholarships, 625 Third Street, Luxemburg, WI 54217 or emailed to 2017ftdgivesback@gmail.com.
